Simple Tips For Protecting Your Hair In The Cold
Survive the winter with these hair tips
It’s finally time for a phenomena that’s foreign to us Floridians; Winter. Though our forecast may be milder than in other parts of the country, the lower temperatures and lack of humidity are a major shift from our norm. Along with changing from our uniform of shorts and flip-flops into something a bit more insulated, how we prepare our hair to face the elements must change, as well. Luckily for you, we’ve got the know-how to get you through this winter, hair in tact!
Keep Your Hair Cling-Free
Firstly, we can mostly ditch the anti-humidity products (hallelujah), and replace them with something more seasonally appropriate. In the winter, hair that lacks moisture can appear dry (duh), and can even become static-y (like the old ‘rub-a-balloon-on-your-head’ trick.) To prevent this, start with your shampoo and conditioner. My favorite for hydrating without weighing hair down is Bumble and Bumble’s Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Shampoo & Conditioner. If you’re feeling generous, pick up one of the nifty holiday gift sets that not only has the shampoo and conditioner in travel sizes, but also, a full size bottle of another of my fave products for keeping your hair cling-free this season; HIO Primer. All you have to do is spray it liberally into wet hair, comb through, and either air dry or blow dry, and you’ll have hydrated locks all day long.
How You To Prevent Split Ends
Another thing to keep in mind is that dry ends can often lead to split ends, so using a hydrating mask once a week, or so, can be a great preventative measure. I like the Moroccan Oil Hydrating Masks, which comes in “Intense” for thick or curly hair that’s exceptionally parched, or “Weightless” for finer hair that just needs a pick-me-up. If you fail to take preventative measures and do notice your ends beginning to split, schedule a trim ASAP to get you back on track.
Now that you’ve got your hair in check, pop on a beanie and huddle around the fire, because this weather will soon be a distant memory we’ll look upon fondly in the depths of summer. Stay warm!
